Help buying Women's cricket equipment
Cricket Bats
The most important point to make here relates to bat weight, followed by bat length, which is very important for the generally slighter built female cricketers. Our cricket bat size guide page is a great place get help in selecting the correct size and weight. Some of our key suppliers like Gray-Nicolls, DSC and Kookaburra have introduced "Lite" or "GEM" models into their ranges, starting at 2'6 oz which sit in between the largest junior size, which is Harrow and adult Full Size Short handle (SH). It is vital to aid technique and stroke development that your cricket bat is not too heavy or too long. For girls using up to size 6 Junior cricket bats, bat weight is much less of an issue, so feel free to choose that bat you really like without worrying about the weight.
We generally find the main issue on pads to be with the width for the usually less muscular legs. Width can be quite difficult to choose the correct fit as under new industry wide safety standards introduced in 2021 means that manufacturers now have to put greater emphasis on safety and protection in their batting and wicket keeping pad specs meaning that are often bulkier and wider. It may well be that choosing AMBI pads will help here as the side wings are less pronounced. The one thing that has changed over the last few of seasons is the general size naming to accommodate all genders. For example Mens is now classed as Adults and Boys as Junior to add greater uniformity in helping to select the correct size equipment. We have introduced a selection of Small Adult size pads to our range offering that we believe will help female cricketers with a size that fits between Youths and Adults. Our batting pad size guide page linked here is a great reference point showing the important instep to knee length measurements and the relevant size classification.
Batting Gloves
As with batting pads it can be quite difficult to choose as under new safety standards introduced in 2021 means that manufacturers now have to put greater emphasis on safety and protection in their batting and wicket keeping gloves specification ahead of slighter / narrower fitting gloves. Again as with pads, the one thing that has changed over the last couple of seasons again is the general size naming of sizing. For example Mens is now classed as Adults and Boys as Junior to add greater uniformity in helping to select the correct size equipment. We have introduced a selection of Small Adult size gloves that we believe will help female cricketers with a size that fits between Youths and Adults. Again our cricket glove size guide is a great reference point showing the important instep wrist to longest finger length measurements to help you select the correct size gloves.
Cricket Helmets
This is far more straight forward for women and girl cricketers, just go with your head circumference and make your choice, just like the boys !.
Wicket Keeping
Using the batting pads and gloves size guide pages will help in choosing the correct size wicket keeping pads and gloves. Wicket Keeping inner gloves are recommended but tend to be bulkier than batting inners, so please remember to allow for these when choosing your size for wicket keeping gloves.
Cricket Shoes
Regarding cricket shoes we have pulled together a detailed by brand size guide for these for those brands that we stock. Generally shoes suit all cricketers, but we do stock a couple of smaller / narrow fitting shoes that are more suitable for ladies and girls from Gray- Nicolls and ME+U
Apart from the Abdo Guard (cricket box) where we do stock a female specific guard this product category generally suits all cricketers. Female cricketers with slighter arms and thighs will find the Youths size generally more suitable than Adult size in this category. For all in one lower body protection like AERO Strippers, Gray-Nicolls Academy All in One products, the critical measurement is from hip to knee and not a waist size measurement.
